Following the success of “Kantara,” another major Kannada film, titled “Vijayanand,” has been dubbed into Telugu. This movie is a biopic of the renowned Karnataka businessman Vijay Sankeshwar. The film was released today. Here’s a review of it.

Story:

Vijay (Nihal Rajput) works at his father’s (Ananta Nag) printing press, improving its operations significantly. Unsatisfied with his personal growth, he ventures into the transport business, encountering numerous challenges along the way. His journey leads him into politics and the media industry, where he starts a newspaper and takes on influential figures. The film chronicles how he achieves significant milestones in his life.

Plus Points:

The movie is based on the life of Vijay Sankeshwar, the owner of India’s largest logistics company, VRL Pvt Ltd. Nihal Rajput portrays Vijay Sankeshwar well in the early parts of the film. Ananta Nag, a senior actor, delivers a compelling performance in his role, featuring in some of the film’s best scenes.

Prakash Belawadi plays the role of a newspaper owner convincingly. Kannada star Ravichandran shines in a small but pivotal role. The second half of the film contains engaging drama, and Vijay Sankeshwar’s journey is depicted reasonably well. The film’s production design is impressive.

Minus Points:

The film’s casting is its major flaw. Although Nihal Rajput is effective in the younger segments, he struggles to convincingly portray the mature Vijay Sankeshwar. His limited facial expressions fail to convey the character’s emotional depth. An older and more experienced actor might have done justice to the role.

After an interesting start, the film begins to feel more like a documentary. The director spends too much time on Vijay’s early life, neglecting key aspects of his political career and media encounters. This missed opportunity for drama detracts from the film’s overall impact. The slow pace and extended runtime, especially in the first half, further hinder the viewing experience.

Technical Aspects:

The film’s production design stands out, with the camerawork effectively capturing the historical period. The set design and Telugu dubbing are well-executed. Dialogues and production values are satisfactory. However, the film’s excessive length might bore Telugu audiences.

Director Rishika Sharma delivers a merely passable effort. Rather than creating engaging drama, she presents the biopic in a somewhat documentary-like manner, which may not appeal to all viewers.

Verdict:

Overall, “Vijayanand” is a detailed biopic of Karnataka’s prominent businessman Vijay Sankeshwar. While the film thoroughly covers his life, it lacks the drama and emotional depth required for an engaging cinematic experience. Although it may be appreciated by Kannada audiences familiar with the subject, Telugu viewers might find it a routine, slow-paced, and unremarkable biopic.
