Ashwin Babu stars in ‘Shivam Bhaje,’ a modern divine suspense thriller directed by Apsar. The film has been released today. Here’s our review:

Story:

Chandu (Ashwin Babu) works as a loan recovery agent and falls for Sailaja (Digangana Suryavanshi). After a sudden incident leaves him blind, an operation restores his sight, but he begins to sense something amiss with a series of murders linked to Binary Chemical Pvt Ltd. What happened to Chandu? What drives the killings? Who is behind them? How do these events tie to China and Pakistan? The movie unravels these mysteries.

Plus Points:

Following his success in ‘Hidimba,’ Ashwin Babu’s performance meets expectations. Digangana Suryavanshi performs her role adequately.

Arbaaz Khan is convincing as a policeman, and Hyper Aadhi adds humor with his comedic timing. The supporting cast, including Murali Sharma and Tanikella Bharani, delivers solid performances.

Minus Points:

Despite being promoted as a divine suspense thriller, the film struggles with a weak script and poor narration. The lack of engaging scenes and a cohesive screenplay often leads to unintended comedy.

The director’s vision is clear, but the execution fails to create compelling moments. The divine aspect is poorly developed, making the title feel disconnected from the plot. The film misses the chance to effectively build suspense around the threat from China and Pakistan. The romantic subplot and some comedic elements feel forced.

Technical Aspects:

As writer and director, Apsar disappoints with a less engaging script and suspenseful narration. Better execution could have resulted in a more gripping film.

The background score by Vikas Badisa is adequate and enhances certain scenes. Cinematography by Dasaradhi Shivendra is satisfactory, and production values are reasonable. While the editing by Chota K Prasad is acceptable, trimming some scenes could have improved the viewing experience.

Verdict:

Overall, ‘Shivam Bhaje’ is a disappointing thriller with a lackluster plot. Although Ashwin Babu and Arbaaz Khan deliver solid performances, the weak storyline and ineffective screenplay make it fall short. It’s advisable to consider other entertainment options this weekend.
