Review:

Akshay Kumar, following a series of unsuccessful films, returns with the adventure thriller “Ram Setu.” This movie has piqued interest due to its connection to Indian heritage. It has now been released. Here’s an analysis of the film.

Plot:

Aryan Kulshreshtha (Akshay Kumar), a distinguished archaeologist, is promoted to Joint Director of the Archaeology Department for his exemplary work. Indrakanth (Nasser) plans to build a project called Sethusamudram, which involves demolishing Ram Setu. To proceed, Indrakanth needs scientific proof that Ram Setu is a natural structure. Aryan is tasked with determining whether Ram Setu is natural or man-made. The movie follows Aryan on this mission.

Strengths:

The concept of delving into the ancient Indian heritage of Ram Setu, believed to be built by Lord Sri Rama, is intriguing. The film presents several facts about this historic structure, indicating thorough research. Akshay Kumar performs well as the dedicated archaeologist and is the film’s backbone. Jacqueline Fernandez supports his role effectively.

Telugu actor Satyadev makes a solid debut, playing a significant part alongside the protagonist. Some sequences, such as Akshay walking on Ram Setu and certain chase scenes in the second half, are engaging and well-executed. The climax, although somewhat predictable, is handled competently.

Weaknesses:

Despite the compelling subject matter, the filmmakers fail to create an equally captivating narrative. The addition of fiction does not enhance the engagement. An adventure thriller needs a dynamic screenplay to keep viewers engrossed, which is lacking here. The film often feels monotonous. The initial half-hour does not tie into the main plot, and Akshay’s character introduction could have been sharper. Interesting moments are fleeting and fail to maintain audience interest.

Many scenes are overly convenient and lack the expected thrills, making subsequent events predictable. Another major issue is the subpar VFX work, which diminishes the film’s impact despite its high budget.

Technical Aspects:

The music by Daniel B George is disappointing for an adventure thriller. Editing is passable but could benefit from more trimming. Production values are decent, and Aseem Mishra’s cinematography is satisfactory. The Telugu dubbing is adequate.

Director Abhishek Sharma chose an intriguing theme but did not fully realize its potential. The result is a half-baked product. A faster-paced screenplay with more exciting scenes could have significantly improved the film. While the research is commendable, the storytelling falls short.

Conclusion:

Overall, “Ram Setu” is a lackluster adventure thriller with only a few gripping sequences. Despite Akshay Kumar’s best efforts, the uninspiring and sluggish screenplay makes it a less-than-thrilling watch for the weekend.
