Kollywood star Sivakarthikeyan’s movie Prince has generated considerable buzz for some time now. The bilingual film finally premiered today. Let’s dive into the movie’s details.

Story

Anand (Sivakarthikeyan), a school teacher, falls in love with his colleague Jessica (Maria Ryaboshapka), a British woman, at first sight. However, his father Vishwanath (Sathyaraj) strongly opposes their relationship for a significant reason, leading the villagers to ostracize Anand. Why does Vishwanath reject his son’s love? Why does the entire village want Anand to leave? These questions drive the story forward.

Plus Points

Following the success of Doctor and Don, Sivakarthikeyan delivers another commendable performance, particularly shining in comedic moments. Maria Ryaboshapka, while limited in scope, performs her role beautifully. Sathyaraj’s portrayal of Vishwanath is noteworthy, with his comedic timing and innocent demeanor providing much relief. Other actors, such as Premgi and Anandraj, deliver satisfactory performances.

Minus Points

Given the high expectations following director Anudeep KV’s hit Jathi Ratnalu, Prince falls short. Anudeep sticks to a familiar comedic formula, but it doesn’t quite hit the mark this time. Although some one-liners are amusing, many scenes fail to elicit laughter, and the storyline feels weak. Jathi Ratnalu succeeded due to its perfect casting and timely release; however, Prince struggles despite having Sivakarthikeyan as the lead. A stronger story with better comedic elements was needed.

Technical Aspects

While Anudeep KV ensures the film looks polished and well-produced, the writing falls short. Some comedic dialogues, particularly those delivered by Sathyaraj, are mildly amusing. The music by Thaman, cinematography by Manoj Paramahamsa, and production values are commendable. Editing by Praveen K.L is also proficient.

Verdict

Overall, Prince is a passable comedy. Sivakarthikeyan’s performance is commendable, but the film’s weak storyline detracts from its impact. Sathyaraj’s performance is a highlight, and a few comedic scenes, especially in the first half and climax, are enjoyable. If you enjoy light-hearted, albeit illogical, comedy, Prince might be worth a watch this weekend.
