Young actor Ranjith Sommi and Malayalam actress Sowmyaa Menon star in the romantic drama “Leharaayi,” which hit theaters today. Let’s delve into how the film fares.

Story:

Meghana (Sowmyaa Menon), raised with strong values, promises her father Purushotham (Rao Ramesh), a doctor, that she will never fall in love to avoid causing him distress. On the other hand, Karthik (Ranjith Sommi) is a student who avoids apologies and excuses. One day, Meghana pretends to propose to Karthik to fend off a harasser. Does Meghana actually have feelings for Karthik? How does Purushotham react? These questions are answered as the story unfolds.

Strengths:

While the storyline is familiar, the director attempts a fresh take by introducing a novel element. Ranjith Sommi, in his third film, shows improvement in his acting, presenting a decent performance. Sowmyaa Menon, in her second Telugu film, impresses with both her looks and a commendable performance. Rao Ramesh excels in his role as Purushotham, delivering a standout performance. Naresh, Satyam Rajesh, and the supporting cast perform their roles adequately.

Weaknesses:

Despite a familiar plot, director Ramakrishna Paramahamsa’s narration lacks impact. Although the film includes good songs, comedy, and action scenes, the uninspired storytelling and unnecessary scenes, particularly in the first half, diminish audience engagement. The lead actors, though visually appealing, could have delivered stronger performances. While some songs are melodious, their placement disrupts the film’s flow, and others feel unnecessary.

Technical Aspects:

Director Ramakrishna Paramahamsa handles a routine story but fails to present it compellingly. The cinematography by MN Balreddy and music by Gantadi Krishna are adequate. Extensive editing by Prawin Pudi in the first half could have improved the film’s reception. The production values are commendable.

Verdict:

Overall, “Leharaayi” is a conventional romantic drama with a weak storyline and lackluster narration, despite the presence of typical commercial elements. Rao Ramesh’s performance stands out, along with a couple of pleasing tracks and some humorous moments. However, the film is generally a dull watch, and viewers might prefer looking for a more engaging movie this weekend.
