Geeta Sakshigaa, a Telugu film starring newcomers Aadarsh and Chitra Sukla, has arrived in theaters. The movie tackles a serious subject – a man accused of a heinous crime – but struggles with a predictable plot and uneven execution.
A Familiar Story with Unfulfilled Potential
Arjun (Aadarsh), a happy-go-lucky DJ, has his world shattered when he’s arrested for the rape and murder of a young woman. Five years later, a determined ACP (Roopesh Shetty) reopens the case, casting doubt on Arjun’s guilt. The film follows the investigation, revealing the truth behind the crime.
While the premise has potential, the story feels uninspired, borrowing heavily from similar films. The screenplay, penned by producer Chetan Raj, fails to capitalize on the suspenseful elements. A tighter narrative and more engaging courtroom scenes could have elevated the movie from mediocre to thrilling. Additionally, the emotional scenes fall flat, lacking depth and connection to the larger issue of violence against women.
Performances Save the Day
Despite the film’s shortcomings, the lead actors deliver strong performances. Aadarsh shines in his debut, showcasing his acting range alongside impressive dancing and fighting skills. Chitra Sukla goes beyond the typical love interest role, playing a crucial part in the story, particularly in the second half. Her courtroom performance is a highlight. Srikanth Iyengar as Lawyer Joseph leaves a mark with his impactful scenes, while the supporting cast delivers solid performances.
Technical Aspects: A Mixed Bag
The cinematography by Venkatahanuma Nariseti is competent, and Gopi Sundar’s background score effectively elevates the scenes. A couple of songs are visually appealing and musically pleasing. However, the editing by Kishore Maddali could have been tighter, especially in the first half, where some scenes drag. Production values are good, evident in the overall presentation.
Verdict: Watchable, But Not Unforgettable
Geeta Sakshigaa is an average film saved by its lead actors’ performances. The predictable plot and uninspired screenplay hold the movie back from its full potential. If you’re looking for a suspenseful thriller, this might not be it. However, for fans of Aadarsh and Chitra Sukla, or those seeking a decent one-time watch, Geeta Sakshigaa might be worth a shot, especially during the Ugadi festival.
