“First Day First Show,” written by Anudeep KV, generated considerable anticipation prior to its release. Here’s a closer look at the film.
Story:
Set in 2001, the film centers on Srinivas (Srikanth Reddy), a carefree college student and ardent admirer of Power Star Pawan Kalyan. He has a crush on his college mate, Laya (Sanchita Basu), who shares his admiration for Pawan Kalyan. As Pawan Kalyan’s film “Kushi” is about to premiere, Srinivas goes to great lengths to obtain a first-day, first-show ticket to impress Laya. The movie follows his attempts and whether he succeeds in this endeavor.
Plus Points:
Vennela Kishore brings some humor in the first half, with a few effective comedic scenes. Pawan Kalyan’s fans might appreciate the references to the star. Anudeep KV makes a cameo and shines in his small role.
Srikanth Reddy delivers a commendable performance in his debut role, particularly in scenes requiring strong expressions. Sanchita Basu performs adequately in her limited screen time. Some one-liners land well, and Tanikella Bharani is satisfactory in his role.
Minus Points:
The film’s plot is very thin, lacking the substance necessary for a full-length feature. This flimsy storyline makes the movie feel immature and disconnected from its characters.
Another major issue is the film’s forced attempts at humor, which often fall flat, making the film seem ridiculous. Characters appear to be obsessively focused on securing a first-day, first-show ticket, which feels over-the-top and unrealistic.
While the first half is somewhat bearable, the second half is tedious and tests the audience’s patience. The pre-climax and climax are particularly intolerable. Anudeep’s writing, successful in “Jaathi Ratnaalu,” misses the mark here, leading to a meaningless climax.
Technical Aspects:
One song stands out visually. Radhan’s music is decent, and Prasanth’s cinematography is competent. Despite being under two hours, the film drags, and the editing could have been tighter. The direction by Vamshidhar and Lakshminarayana lacks impact.
Verdict:
Overall, “First Day First Show” is an unsatisfactory and absurd film. It offers a mildly entertaining first half, but the second half is unbearable. The lead cast’s performances, a few scattered comedic scenes, and Vennela Kishore’s presence are the film’s few redeeming qualities. However, the weak plot, immature storytelling, exaggerated comedy, and annoying characters make it a film worth skipping.
