Story:
Ponni (Keerthy Suresh), a policewoman, is on a quest for revenge after her husband Maari (Kanna Ravi) and daughter are brutally murdered. Adding to her suffering, she is subjected to sexual abuse by upper-caste men, leaving her desolate. Desperate for justice, Ponni turns to her estranged half-brother Sangaiyya (Selvaraghavan), with whom she shares a troubled past. The film follows Ponni’s journey as she reconciles with Sangaiyya and seeks vengeance.
Plus Points:
For the first time, Keerthy Suresh delivers a raw and gritty performance, making Saani Kaayidham one of her most intense roles to date. Her portrayal of Ponni, with raw emotion and brutal determination, is compelling on screen. Selvaraghavan, playing Sangaiyya, is equally impressive. His understated performance, particularly through his expressive eyes, adds depth to the character, and the director’s depiction of him is noteworthy. Sam CS’s background score stands out, adding tension and haunting the viewer long after the movie ends.
Minus Points:
While the performances are strong and the violence is impactful, the film lacks emotional depth in some areas. The relationship between key characters could have been developed further for a more gripping emotional connection. Additionally, the pacing slows down in parts, and towards the end, events feel rushed. The climax, which could have been more elaborately handled, feels somewhat abrupt.
