Plot:
Chitram Aravindhan (Siddharth) and his YouTube team, The Barking Dogs, expose corruption in the city, leading to their imprisonment. After their release, they realize that only Senapathi (Kamal Haasan) can truly fight against India’s corruption. They launch the #ComeBackIndian campaign to bring Senapathi back from Taipei. Upon his return, he urges the youth to eradicate bribery from their families. Will the youth listen? Will the police catch Senapathi? Does the country still need his intervention? Positives:
The challenge of bridging the 28-year gap between the original and the sequel, particularly portraying Senapathi as an older man, was handled well by Shankar. He convincingly presents Senapathi as a 106-year-old, which audiences find satisfying.
Kamal Haasan performs decently, bringing his characteristic expressions to the role. Siddharth stands out, especially in emotional scenes. Samuthirakani delivers a good performance despite limited screen time. Bobby Simha and others are adequate in their roles.
Negatives:
While Shankar’s idea of placing Senapathi in a modern, corrupted India is compelling, the execution lacks impact. The emotional depth typical of Shankar’s films is missing, and the screenplay, particularly in the second half, is weak. Emotional scenes are underdeveloped.
Rakul Preet Singh, Priya Bhavani Shankar, SJ Suryah, and others have minor roles that do not leave a strong impression, possibly setting up for more involvement in a future installment.
A significant shortfall is the music. Anirudh’s score fails to elevate key scenes, leaving many moments feeling flat.
