Following his significant roles in the hit films “Sita Ramam” and “SIR,” actor Sumanth returns in the unique thriller “Aham Reboot.” This film features Sumanth as its sole character and premiered directly on the Aha OTT platform. Here is our review of the movie.
Story:
Nilay (Sumanth) aspires to be a football player, but his dreams are shattered when an accident leads to the death of a girl named Avantika, causing him immense guilt and suicidal thoughts. To cope, Nilay becomes a radio jockey. During a live show, he receives a call from a girl who claims she has been kidnapped and pleads for his help. The film follows Nilay as he tries to uncover the girl’s identity and her connection to Avantika, with the police also playing a crucial role. The answers unfold in the film, available on Aha.
Positive Points:
The movie excels in creating a thrilling atmosphere with just one character. The central theme, emotional moments, and a surprising climax twist are noteworthy. Sumanth delivers a strong performance, showcasing a range of emotions in various scenes. Well-crafted sequences and a compelling background score enhance the tension and narrative.
Despite being set entirely in a single room with a lone character during a radio show, the director effectively maintains intrigue at several points, making “Aham Reboot” a commendable psychological revenge thriller.
Negative Points:
The film’s plot and screenplay are often predictable. A more engaging screenplay and a deeper conflict from the protagonist’s perspective could have improved the film. Additionally, more impactful dialogue would have been beneficial.
While Sumanth’s performance is solid, many of his scenes are overly simplistic. The experimental approach of using a single character is interesting, but the absence of a supporting cast weakens the overall narrative.
Although the concept of an RJ overcoming guilt and starting anew is compelling, the execution falls short due to a lackluster screenplay.
Technical Aspects:
Director Prashanth Sagar Atluri selected a strong storyline and lead actor but failed to deliver a more engaging screenplay. Sriram Madhuri’s background score is commendable. Some scenes would benefit from tighter editing. Varun Ankarla’s cinematography is adequate, and the production values by Raghuveer Goriparthi and Srujan Yarabolu are suitable for the film’s setting and scale.
Verdict:
“Aham Reboot” offers a partially thrilling experience with its single-character focus in a few scenes. However, the film as a whole disappoints due to conventional revenge elements, a tedious screenplay, and weak execution. Fans of experimental thrillers might find this film lacking.
